BAND BIOGRAPHY

Sometime back in the last century, when punk music was still dangerous, visionary and urban poet Billy King left his home town of Dublin to travel across Europe, guitar over his shoulder, moving from country to country, busking, drinking and tasting the wines and women before he paused for a rest in Bologna, Italy. He lived there for seven years, playing in various punk bands before moving again, this time to London, with a head full of ideas and a notebook full of drunken ramblings. It was here that the story of the international mongrel gypsy punk rockers ‘Drunken Balordi’ begins.
Clemens, a classically trained violinist from Germany and all round unusual guy responded to an internet post advertising ‘a rehearsal space under a pub with half-price beer'. Soon Billy and Clemens began creating a bizarre Klezmer-Punk hybrid together in the basement of a notorious South London drinking establishment.
Pag, a long-haired, part-Italian doctor and occasional musician from London overheard their conversation in a pub one night about the surprising lack of good drummers in such a large city. After a pint or two the band was a trio. Pag wasn’t really a drummer (he plays guitar and sings with his other projects), but since when did that matter?
Over a year before, Justin, a tall, handsome, blonde South African had approached Billy at a particularly drunken party, and without knowing who he was, swore that in a years time they would be playing in the same band together. He was right. Justin has been through numerous bands and countries before he finally found a home playing bass with 'Drunken Balordi.
Kathy, an extremely talented musician, had already cut her chops in the folk scenes both sides of the equator, recently returning to her London roots and joining the band after wandering Australia playing with 'The Sheep Dippers Collective'.
Drunken Balordi sing about drinking, erotic pleasure, temptation, vulgarity and everyday life on the streets of London. They make gypsy music with balls influenced by Roma, Klezmer, Balkan, Russian etc. all mixed up with a big dose of punk attitude. If you like to laugh, sing, throw your beer around and get hysterical then 'Drunken Balordi' are what you need. Guaranteed to put a fire under the ass of any party …OPA!!!
Billy King has sung for now defunct hardcore punks ‘The Boozers’, as well as numerous other bands over his career. He is also a member of the acclaimed London Gypsy Orchestra.
Clemens Post is a classical violinist who has played with various orchestras in Germany and Europe including time in a traditional Klezmer outfit. He only ever wears black.
Justin Thomson thought he was on the yellow brick road until he met Billy King, now he knows he is on the yellow brick road and that somewhere over the rainbow awaits his emerald city. DUBLIN?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!
James Pagliero is also the frontman of eclectic funk-rockers ‘Virgins of Voodoo’, sings his own acoustic songs and occasionally tries to be a comedian as well. He really is a doctor. And he loves Slayer.
Kathy McCready was a founder member of the 'River Gypsies’, and has played on all of their CD releases which can be found in charity shops everywhere. She is a veteran of Ross International Festival & Glastonbury's 'Mud Fest’ and her beloved accordion is called Trevor.
